Georgian Sterling Gold Shoe Buckles - 1770s - Original Shagreen Box by W. Eley
is on back order
Antique marked Georgian shoe buckles in sterling silver with yellow gold in the original shagreen box. These buckles are marked with the sterling Georgian mark also the "WE" mark used by William Eley early in his career around mid to late 1770s and used into the 1780s. The buckles have two rows of silver ribbon twists. Inside the silver twist are yellow gold ribbons. Unfortunately I was unable to access the gold to test and see what karat it is. The forks inside the buckles are of course steel. The box has some issues. The satin liner inside the lid has deteriorated and one hinge is damaged. Overall these buckles are amazing historic examples from the late 18th century.
